TODAY’S TOP PICKS
⚽ Stuttgart vs Borussia Monchengladbach
🏟️ German Bundesliga
📅 Friday 23 October; 20:30 (CEST)
Top 3 Stats:
Gladbach have the league’s worst defence — they’ve conceded 20 goals in six games and have lost all three away games by a combined 10-1.
Gladbach has nine players injured, leaving them with only two strikers fit to start, one of which might be ruled out.
Stuttgart won four of the last five meetings, outscoring Gladbach 12-3.
CXSports says: This one’s pretty obvious from the high-level stats alone. Stuttgart win this for multiple reasons, starting with the fact that they’re taking on the worst defence in the Bundesliga. (Gladbach’s conceded 20 in six games and lost all of its away games, two of which were in an embarrassing fashion: 3-0, 5-0 and 2-1.) Then there’s also the fact that the worst defence in the Bundesliga is also going to be showing up to this game with 9 players injured, which includes a couple of key strikers — Kleindienst and Lidberg. Not that that’s going to make much difference anyway — they’ve only scored a single goal in their 3 away games this season, so strikers or no strikers, it’s probably all the same.
Of course, that doesn’t mean this one’s destined to become a bloodbath. Stuttgart’s far from perfect, and their own attack is rather ordinary — they’ve got just 8 league goals in six games, giving them a 1.3 per game average. But, for all of its imperfection, that’s not going to make much of a difference here. Simply put, “imperfect” is more than enough against what’s probably best described as a “disaster waiting to happen”.
In reality, the only real worry for Stuttgart in this game is their schedule. They played Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, which, putting the obvious fatigue thing aside, also isn’t a good omen — the last two times they played a league game three days after a Champions League match, they lost: 2-1 at Hoffenheim and 1-0 at Hamburg. Although, both of those were away. And both were against stronger opposition than Gladbach (the worst defense in the league and the only team on zero points so far). So with this one being at home against a weak opponent, we’re still fairly confident Stuttgart should win.Score prediction: 2-1 for Stuttgart

⚽ Arsenal vs Everton
🏟️ English Premier League
📅 Saturday 24 October; 16:00 (CEST)
Top 3 Stats:
Everton almost never wins at Arsenal — they last won there in April 2021 (ending a 24-match winless run) and since then they’ve lost four and drawn one (which makes 1 win in 30)
Arsenal’s won all three home games this season with an aggregate of 7-2, with those wins including a 2-1 over Chelsea (who are 4th).
Everton only managed to draw its three away games, and those draws came against sides that are currently ranked 9th, 15th and 16th.
CXSports says: They say the past doesn’t always predict the future. But when the past has repeated over and over and over again, it’s probably still worth paying attention to. So what does the past say about Everton at Arsenal? The answer: nothing good. Everton has only a single league win in their last 30 visits to Arsenal, which came back in April 2021. Since then, they’ve visited 5 times and lost four of those matches while drawing one. And while we’re on the topic of past head-to-heads, it’s probably also worth noting that Arsenal hasn’t lost to Everton anywhere (either home or away) since February 2023.
Still, that’s the past. And as we’re more than aware, the past doesn’t always predict the future. So what does the present say? Well, this season, Arsenal’s won all three of its home league games and scored at least twice in each of those games, including in its 2-1 victory against 4th-placed Chelsea. As for Everton, they’re technically unbeaten in their away games this season with three draws from three. But that probably won’t count for much as all were played against mid-table-to-bottom-half sides.
Of course, Everton does have one ace up its sleeve — it can defend well. After all, they’ve only conceded 7 goals in 7 league games this season while the average side has let in about 10. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s only scored 11 in its 7 games, which isn’t exactly spectacular, and is by far the lowest goals-scored tally of anyone in the top 4. However, even if Everton’s defense can fend off Arsenal (and that’s a big if), the best that defence can hope for is probably a distant chance at a draw if its attack also manages to score. But don’t hold your breath here — Everton’s 8 goals in 7 games suggests they don’t have the best of chances against an Arsenal defense that’s only conceded 5 in 7 games while keeping four clean sheets.
As such, we expect this one to end fairly cleanly for Arsenal — maybe even in a clean sheet — with the only real complication being how well Everton can lock down in defense.Score prediction: 2-0 for Arsenal

⚽ Atletico Madrid vs Deportivo La Coruna
🏟️ Spanish La Liga
📅 Saturday 24 October; 21:00 (CEST)
Top 3 Stats:
Against the sides currently in the top six, Atletico won all three of their games (8-2 on aggregate) while Deportivo only has a single point from three (3-5 on aggregate).
Atletico has won their last five league games while Deportivo has gone five without a win (three draws, two losses).
Deportivo haven’t beaten Atletico since 2009. In the 11 head-to-heads since, Atletico’s won eight and drawn three.
CXSports says: Deportivo’s done quite well for itself this season considering they’re a freshly-promoted side. After all, there ain’t that many newly-promoted teams that manage to seat themselves in the mid table after playing 9 games. Still, “pretty good for a freshly-promoted side” is just that, and it’s probably not going to mean much up against the number 2 side in the league, which is where Atletico finds itself at this very moment.
Indeed, the season so far has already shown us how this is likely to play out. Against sides currently in the top-6 on the table, Deportivo only has one point from three games after losing two and drawing one with an aggregate score of 3-5. Meanwhile, Atletico’s also played 3 games against top-6 competition, and it managed to walk away with three wins and an aggregate score of 8-2.
So yes, Deportivo might be ninth and doing quite well considering their freshly-promoted status. But so far, things don’t look great when they’re faced with tougher competition. Indeed, even if we look past their games against tougher competition, they still don’t look all that convincing leading into this. So far this season, they only have two wins they took earlier in the season — one over a team now 19th, one over a team that’s now 12th. And, more recently, they haven’t won in seven weeks with their best results being a string of draws. And to make matters worse, they’re now also missing a key striker (who scored 5 of their 13 goals) who’s now recovering from knee surgery while their other first-choice forward is recovering from a broken wrist.
As for Atletico, they’re sitting much prettier. They’re second in the table, they score 2.1 a game on average and scored at least twice in all four of their home games. So, based on that, we can probably count on them getting at least two goals here again. Deportivo might also get one in response. But even if they do, as the old saying goes, two goals are better than one, and it’ll probably be Atletico with the 2.Score prediction: 2-1 for Atletico
