SCORE PREDICTIONS [FIRST HALF]

This week’s top tips and score predictions, brought to you by CXSports — the leader in odds and score predictions.

Aston Villa vs Newcastle
🏟 English Premier League
Saturday 16 August; 13:30 (Europe/Paris)

  • Why we’re watching: While Villa does enjoy an edge, we’d be hesitant to go all in. With that said, there’s a nice double chance play here that still has some decent odds.

  • CXSports says: Villa’s preseason was strong (4-0 vs Roma and 2-0 vs Villarreal) with Buendía and Watkins being particularly sharp. Meanwhile, Newcastle are coming in off the back of a flat 0-2 to Atletico and a whole lot of selection noise up front (Gordon ankle knock, Isak uncertainty). With that said, there isn’t a world of difference between these two, even if their slight fitness/form edge tilts this one towards Aston Villa as the slight favorites.

  • Score prediction: Score: 2–1 For Aston Villa

Option #1

  • Bet: Double Chance (Villa / Newcastle)

  • Odds Range: 1.15-1.30

Option #2

  • Bet: Aston Villa Victory

  • Odds Range: 2.00-2.35

Brighton vs Fulham
🏟 English Premier League
Saturday 16 August; 16:00 (Europe/Paris)

  • Why we’re watching: Great value odds given Brighton’s reasonably clear edge in this game.

  • CXSports says: There’s no denying that Brighton's been historically strong at home (they average 2.3 goals while conceding just 1.4). And their preseason has shown that they’ll likely carry that attacking edge into the EPL season. Fulham, on the other hand, lack the attacking edge and are more vulnerable at the back — particularly when they’re on the road (1.7 goals conceded on average). This hints at a strong edge for Brighton in both defense and offense, making them the likely victors here.

  • Score prediction: 2-1 for Brighton

Option #1

  • Bet: Brighton Victory

  • Odds Range: 1.72-1.93

Option #2

  • Bet: Both Teams to Score (Yes)

  • Odds Range: 1.48-1.68

Sunderland vs West Ham
🏟 English Premier League
Saturday 16 August; 16:00 (Europe/Paris)

  • Why we’re watching: If you can stomach the increased risk, the odds on a draw here are quite tempting given the probability of this outcome. Otherwise, take the safer double-chance play.

  • CXSports says: West Ham are technically the statistical favorites here, particularly in their history against promoted sides like Sunderland’s, which will likely be as brutal. Of course, early-season matches can favor scrappy, tight encounters, and Sunderland’s strong home play and the return of some key attacking players may just help to even out the scales. Maybe not enough to eliminate West Ham’s edge, but enough for us to give this one a high probability of ending in a draw.

  • Score prediction: 1-1 draw

Option #1

  • Bet: Draw

  • Odds Range: 3.07-3.50

Option #2

  • Bet: Double Chance (Draw / West Ham)

  • Odds Range: 1.23-1.38

Tottenham vs Burnley
🏟 English Premier League
Saturday 16 August; 18:30 (Europe/Paris)

  • Why we’re watching: Despite the huge edge for Tottenham, there’s still some solid odds on the market if you know where to look.

  • CXSports says: Tottenham are kicking off their campaign with a new manager. Will that make a difference? At this stage, nobody knows. What we do know is that they also have a strong statistical advantage and a historical edge over Burnley. With that said, Burnley has been bolstering its ranks over the summer with some high-profile acquisitions (Broja up front, Ugochukwu in midfield, and Dubravka between the sticks), but that doesn’t negate the fact that they still face a stiff challenge from a confident Tottenham. When all’s said and done, expect a dominant performance by the Spurs.

  • Score prediction: 3-0 for Tottenham

Option #1

  • Bet: Tottenham Victory

  • Odds Range: 1.20-1.40

Option #2

  • Bet: Both Teams to Score (No)

  • Odds Range: 1.61-1.80

SCORE PREDICTIONS [SECOND HALF]

Wolves vs Manchester City
🏟 English Premier League
Saturday 16 August; 16:00 (Europe/Paris)

  • Why we’re watching: Nice odds on a high-probability City victory.

  • CXSports says: Historically, City have had no trouble beating the Wolves — they’ve come out on top in roughly 70% of their past head-to-heads (most recently in a 1-0 victory in May). Even their away performances are strong (four consecutive clean sheets). Meanwhile, Wolves remain weak in offense relative to City’s stone wall and vulnerable in defense, although they have improved under Pereira. Given all this, it appears this will very likely end in another clean City victory.

  • Score prediction: 0-2 for Manchester City

Option #1

  • Bet: Manchester City Victory

  • Odds Range: 1.33-1.49

Option #2

  • Bet: Both Teams to Score (No)

  • Odds Range: 1.80-1.99

Chelsea vs Crystal Palace
🏟 English Premier League
Sunday 17 August; 15:00 (Europe/Paris)

  • Why we’re watching:

  • CXSports says: Chelsea will be looking to kick off their Premier League campaign with ease, relying on the same strong home form they’ve shown in the past, along with the comfort of a dominant head-to-head record in this fixture. With that said, Crystal Palace have shown they’re capable of disrupting stronger teams at opportune moments, so expect them to find a way onto the scoreboard, even if it’s ultimately for nothing. In short, Chelsea has a clear and undeniable edge here.

  • Score prediction: 2-1 for Chelsea

Option #1

  • Bet: Chelsea Victory

  • Odds Range: 1.45-1.62

Option #2

  • Bet: Both Teams to Score (Yes)

  • Odds Range: 1.57-1.75

Nottingham Forest vs Brentford
🏟 English Premier League
Sunday 17 August; 15:00 (Europe/Paris)

  • Why we’re watching: The double chance here is a reasonably safe, decent value play, although Forest still holds just enough of an edge to potentially make backing a single outcome worthwhile.

  • CXSports says: Historical head-to-head data between these two slightly favors Brentford. However, with their head-to-heads usually featuring low goal tallies and tight scorelines, that slight edge is statistically insignificant, particularly given Forest's consistent solidity and Brentford’s waning firepower, which could easily flip the balance back the other way. That’s not to say that Brentford won’t be dangerous. Rather, it’s to say that Nottingham Forest likely has a (very) slight edge here.

  • Score prediction: 1-0 for Nottingham Forest

Option #1

  • Bet: Double Chance (Forest / Brentford)

  • Odds Range: 1.22-1.33

Option #2

  • Bet: Nottingham Forest Victory

  • Odds Range: 1.90-2.14

Manchester United vs Arsenal
🏟 English Premier League
Sunday 17 August; 17:30 (Europe/Paris)

  • Why we’re watching: There’s a nice double chance play here with some solid odds, although this probably wouldn’t make the list of our must-watch EPL games this week.

  • CXSports says: There’s no secret as to what Arsenal’s ambitions are this season, and this match will likely get them right on track to reach that goal (the title). How do we know this? Well, just take a look at the past head-to-heads here — in their last 5 head-to-heads, Arsenal have remained unbeaten (4W, 1D). That’s bad news for Man United, who’ll be looking for redemption after last season’s woeful performance. However, if they can step up their game, who knows — maybe they’ll avoid defeat and finish it in a draw?

  • Score prediction: 1-2 for Arsenal or a 1-1 Draw

Option #1

  • Bet: Double Chance (Draw / Arsenal)

  • Odds Range: 1.20-1.34

Option #2

  • Bet: Both Teams to Score (Yes)

  • Odds Range: 1.57-1.75
